Calling Content Creators!

Students from Swansea University Medical School (SUMS) are invited to participate in a P&P competition to create short educational videos exploring the past and future of science.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity for students to showcase their subject knowledge as well as science communication and technical skills in collaboration with one of the world’s leading medical institutions, Houston Methodist, located at the heart of the Texas Medical Center.

All participants will be invited to a virtual showcase and awards ceremony during induction week where the winners will be announced.

Eligibility:

• All continuing Swansea University Medical School students (i.e., you must be enrolled at Swansea University in September 2021)
• Students may enter as individuals or as part of a team (maximum 3 people per team)

Video topics:

Participants are required to submit videos based on the following theme/category:

• Noble Prize Winners: Highlight the story, discovery and science behind a Nobel Prize winner in the fields of medicine, physics, chemistry, or physiology.
• Hospital of the Future: What do the hospitals of 2050 look like? What is your vision of the future of hospitals and health care in general? How do robots and artificial intelligence play a role?

Video specifications:

• Participants are required to submit two videos:
  • One video up to 4 minutes long (for YouTube)
  • One video of up to 1 minute long (for TikTok)
• Both videos should be on the same topic and can re-use the same content where appropriate
• Videos should be submitted in MP4 format
• Use creative commons/copyright-free music and images and/or submit evidence of permission for re-use from copyright holder

Submission:

• Submit videos using the form below by 5:00 pm UK time on 23 August 2021

Judging and winners:

• Videos will be judged by a panel of medical innovation and education experts from Texas and Swansea
• A video showcase and announcement of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will take place at a virtual awards ceremony hosted by Houston Methodist Research Institute during induction week

Posting online:

• All videos that are judged suitable for inclusion will be posted on the Pumps & Pipes YouTube channel and TikTok
• Credit will be given to the student(s) in the video comments and full copyright will be retained by the student(s)

How to Enter:

To enter the contest, email info@pumpsandpipes.com with your name, year in school, contact information (email and phone), title(s) of videos, and any social media handles you would like tagged. A P&P representative will reply with a link to upload your videos. ALL ENTRIES ARE DUE BY 5:00 PM UK TIME ON 23 AUGUST 2021.
